Dr Benkert’s Retirement Statement

Dear patients, friends and colleagues

With some sadness I have to let you know that I will be leaving the Crown Medical Practice at the end of April. After 28 years a long and amazing journey will come to its end. I had retired as a GP partner in 2021 and continued as a GP retainer for another 3 years but now I feel it is the right time to retire.

Thank you for your best wishes, cards and presents. Thank you for your trust and sharing your life’s journey with me in sad and happy days. It has been a great privilege. I met some wonderful people and witnessed their courage, determination and strength in times of great adversities. Thank you for all your kindness, encouragement and making me feel welcome. It kept me going in good and difficult times.

During all those years I was supported by a wonderful team. I could not have managed without them, and they have become an extended family to me. I am so grateful to them and will miss their company.

General practice has changed a lot since I started at the Crown in 1996. Our teams have increased in size and there is a greater skill mix with Nurse practitioners, Paramedics and Pharmacists providing many of the services. We also enjoy much more managerial support. Computers now seem as important as stethoscopes in our day-to-day work.   During the Covid pandemic we had to use a lot of new technology to maintain access to General Practice and we still have to rely on triage and telephone consultations to respond to the ever-increasing demand for primary care services. That can be frustrating for patients and health professionals. Already we have seen the benefits of the merger of the Crown Medical Practice and Trinity Medical Practice. It will secure the sustainability of the two practices.

I enjoyed very much being your GP and I know change is never easy, but I know I will leave you in good hands.

I wish you, my colleagues and the Crown a happy future and hope you can support my colleagues as much as you have supported me over the years.

Thank you so much

Dr Stephan Benkert

Rapid Health Online Consultation

The practice will be using an online service called Rapid Health. You can find this by clicking the ‘consult with you doctor online tab’ on our website. Patients will be able to submit requests/queries to us online. These requests/queries could be either clinical or administrative and will be directed to the correct person. Where Clinical the system will triage and you will be given options to book an appointment in the correct timeframe.

New Appointment System

As of the 31.10.22 we will be changing the way we book appointments. When you call for an appointment (at 8am) you will put on for a triage call with a clinician. From this you will then be directed to the appropriate clinician if a further appointment is needed.
